Planning for Your Educational Expenses

Most  students at need help to pay for educational expenses. NUNM participates in federal financial aid programs, including loans and work study and also has a variety of scholarships available to eligible students.  To be considered an “eligible student,” you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and be enrolled at least half–time at the university. Students who attend NUNM on an F–1 Visa (foreign students) are not eligible to participate in federal student aid programs.

In general, financial assistance can be divided into three broad categories:

  • Loans — Funds advanced to you by a governmental or private lender, to be repaid (or possibly forgiven) after graduation.
  • Earnings — Wages paid for work performed during enrollment.
  • Scholarships — “Free money” that does not need to be repaid upon completion of enrollment. Scholarship recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress (SAP) as a condition for receiving a scholarship. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of the scholarship in its entirety. This policy applies to both internal and external scholarships funding sources.

The Financial Aid office can advise the student about sources of financial aid and budgeting strategies.  We want to provide you with clear and concise information about financial aid.
